Magnolia Estates lie at the edge of Coorg and Karnataka on the national highway to Kannur (formerly Cannanore) in Kerala. The estate is located on a hill side with an all round view of the magnificent Virajpet Valley in front. Behind Magnolia Estates are the first waves of the famous Western Ghats of India. Besides Coffee, Pepper and Cinnamon, the area around this 80 acre estate is blessed with a very large variety of flora and fauna, animals like elephants, deer, boar, monitor lizards, and porcupines as well as nearly two hundred varieties of exotic birds.
Nath Plantations as it was called earlier, was purchased by Major Srikanth Manchala (Retd) and his wife Laxmi Srikanth from Faiyaz Moosakutty and family of Sunticoppa, Coorg. Well known planters in Coorg, the Moosakutty family deals in a variety of coffee from around the world.
Upon purchasing the property in the summer of 2007, the Manchala family spent several weeks a year at the estate, away from their city home in Bangalore. The Magnolia name came about when the Manchalas decided to relocate to India from California where they had spent a decade. Magnolia is a commonly occurring tree in California and bears their favorite flower. In 2008, they constructed an estate bungalow - naming it Villa Magnolia.
In 2012, the family felt that the beauty of Magnolia and the hills around Virajpet should be shared with travelers from around the world. Their vision was to create a nature resort nestled in the coffee plantation but with an architecture and ambience unique to Coorg and South India. Maj. Manchala visualized the architecture and personally designed the entire resort. Construction began in earnest a few years later. Mrs. Manchala is an ardent fan of Indian architecture and interiors and decided to present that tradition at Magnolia in a unique way. She went about collecting antique furniture, wooden artifacts, carvings, pillars from old demolished homes etc. and spent three years restoring them. Their children participated in the design of various concepts, particularly the nature oriented themes.
We invite you to enjoy this luxurious estate and resort to its fullest. We hope you fall in love as we have and come back again and again.
